- There are 3 types of Sesame: White, Black, and Red. As per Ayurveda, Charak Rushi says: Use White and Black Sesame. In Ayurveda, Red Sesame has been banned/varjit. However, Black Sesame is considered medicinal. When broken in two pieces, seed comes out and the Black shell is medicinal.
- Charak Rushi had knowledge of more than 1 lakh medicines, he had stated in Charak Sahita, ‘while making all these medicines, you have to use at least 1 or 2 drops of Sesame oil, If any medicine does not require Sesame oil, still add one drop of Sesame oil. Only then, the medicine can be considered complete’.
